Presenting our 20th Festival
Posted by Kylie Aitchison On the 5th March 2012
I'm incredibly proud to present our 20th Festival. This year's programme features comedians from our very first Festivals, appearing alongside some fresh emerging new talent. I'm thrilled that some of our Festival favourites are returning to celebrate with us, and I'm also looking forward to introducing you to performers making their Festival debut - it won't be long until they're on your favourites list too.
From humble beginnings at the Watershed Theatre in 1993, the Festival has grown into one of New Zealand's most loved events, celebrated nationally by an audience of more than 100,000 people each year. The inaugural programme boasted "three weeks of open slather comedy" and we have stayed true to this central idea of celebrating comedy in all forms. In 2012 we once again applaud three weeks of comedy with 200 performers, in 118 shows at 23 venues across Auckland and Wellington.
My immense gratitude goes out to all the performers, producers, sponsors, venues, volunteers and staff who have been involved in the Festival over the last two decades. Your vision, hard work and dedication have given audiences a one-of-a-kind New Zealand event and the chance to see comedy like never before!
So light a birthday candle*, grab a piece of cake* and come celebrate with us!
