Watching Sam Smith & Sam Irwin perform last night was reminiscent of the old-fashioned unpredictability & mateship of Morcambe & Wise mixed with the contemporariness our very own Conchords. Their characters were so defined, so recognisable & so very funny working together. These are 2 hilariously different guys & you get both of them for the price of one!

Much of what they performed had that casual ad-lib approach to it which only comics totally trusting of each other’s ability can successfully pull off. I’m sure they now regret those hours of rehearsal after experiencing that much of their show can be beautifully winged! Their very funny musical segments were perfectly weighted & their inclusion was very much a part of the show, not just used as filler or as links.

You must listen carefully to these guys at all times as there are asides & quips between them during the entire show. When you unexpectedly catch one out of the blue & notice their reactions to each other, you risk cracking yourself (& them) up. If this show was on DVD you would need to watch it more than once to fully get it all.

The Sams obviously enjoyed each other’s company & we in the audience did too.
