Critics Review
James Roque is Chicken! He has descended on Brooklyn Bar and Lounge for the Comedy Fest celebrations and what a descent it is.
Originally wanting to name his set ‘James Roque is a Pussy!’ does not take away from the fact that James Roque has fears – and lots of them.
Announcing his own entrance before getting his gangsta lean walk on up to the stage, rap beats a-blaring, James Roque looks more Yakuza than chicken.
Yet this 21 year old funny guy has accumulated a lifetimes-worth of fears, drawing on both personal and imaginary experiences for content.
Audience members in the immediate vicinity of the stage were in stitches from the get go, starting the evening off on a great vibe.
Dividing his set into three segments, he begins with ‘the scary,’ while he ends with the ‘absolutely terrifying.’
He entertained the audience with a never-ending spiel of fears that include bus-stops and Rainbows End. I especially enjoyed James’ take on relationships and the pros and cons of being pussywhipped.
Providing a refreshing take on stand-up, James produces the goods and lets you into the secrets of what scares every male.
