New Zealand Comedy Trust Present

Jeff Achtem & Zoe Evershed

Shadow Puppets Masterclass

ShadowWorkshop_470x270.jpg  Puppets Are Manipulative Little Bastards

They bend our reality, they warp our emotions and they can get away with murder. In this workshop session, participants will learn techniques for devising and performing visually expressive and emotionally manipulative shadow puppets.

Using simple materials, we will make simple creatures gifted with complex possibilities using voice, movement and visual textures. The workshop will focus both on shadow puppet making techniques (the arts-crafty bits) and performance strategies. Participants are asked to bring 3 non-rigid items.

Extremely limited spaces.

For performers and theatre makers interested in puppeteering.

Touring to festivals around the globe, Canadian-born Jeff Achtem has built a loyal audience for his unique brand of shadow puppetry created from found objects. This is Jeff's first trip to NZ, as he brings his charming and award-winning shadow puppetry show, Sticks, Stones, Broken Bones to the NZ International Comedy Festival. Achtem explains his DIY shadow puppetry as a meek rebuttal to the over-stimulation of audiences in this internet age.

Present your NZICF Performer Pass, Comedy Guild or Actors Equity Membership at the Box Office to receive a $10 discount.
