These may still be ‘unprecedented times’, but a bit of laughter is the best medicine!* Prepare yourself for a homegrown spread of gourmet giggles at the Best Foods Christmas Comedy Gala, hosted by the hilarious Pax Assadi, on Monday 9 November at The Opera House.

A superstar of the Kiwi comedy scene - Urzila Carlson joins the line up! Since starting her comedy career 12 years ago, Urzila has shot to superstardom, with her own Netflix special Overqualified Loser, a slew of awards and last year she became the highest selling comedian ever at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (one of the biggest festivals in the world!). Her trademark deadpan humour and cheeky wit have won her fans around the globe. You don't want to miss this world-class act, live on stage this November.

He's a star of Mean Mums and a 7 Days regular - Cori Gonzalez-Macuer joins the line-up! Insightful, sardonic and very, very clever, we can't wait to see what Cori brings. In 2020 Cori has reunited with his What We Do in the Shadows co-stars Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement to develop a new original series called Ass set to go into production next year - but while we wait for that to hit our screens, catch Cori at the Gala this November!

Tim Batt has got to be one of the busiest comics in Aotearoa! Not only is he an accomplished stand-up comedian, he's also a producer, executive producer, writer, host and podcast mogul - he's one half of The Worst Idea of All Time, NZ's most successful podcast with over 14 million downloads and counting! Known for his quick wit, energetic performance and clever comedy, Tim Batt is one of NZ's brightest comics - make sure you don't miss him live on stage at The Opera House!

We’re stoked to have one of Pōneke’s superstars, Sera Devcich join the bill! Sera’s won acclaim from some of our nation’s best comics, most recently joining Ben Hurley playing to sellout crowds. She’s appeared on the likes of The Project and 7 Days. Her sharp jokes and dry humour have won her fans up and down the country.

We are absolutely honoured to welcome national treasures and comedy legends, Dames Jools and Lynda Topp, The Topp Twins, to the Best Foods Christmas Comedy Gala. A regular on Have You Been Paying Attention, 7 Days and The Project, and co-host of TVNZ’s Last Dad Standing, Melanie Bracewell brings her special brand of hilarity to the line-up. Winner of last year’s prestigious Fred award for Best Show, and host of critically acclaimed RNZ podcast Eating Fried Chicken In The Shower, James Nokise delivers his celebrated comedic storytelling to the stage.  Host of Have You Been Paying Attention and The Great Kiwi Bake Off, Hayley Sproull transitions from 2019 backstage Comedy Gala host to on-stage performer for a hilarious musical performance. 2019 Fred Award nominee, TV star and one third of the hilarious Frickin’ Dangerous Bro trio, James Roque delivers his whip-smart and hilarious brand of comedy. Making their Comedy Gala debuts, SNORT improv queen, two-time Billy T Nominee and self-professed Cat Lady in Waiting Donna Brookbanks hits the stage, and Paul Douglas, winner of Best Live show and Best Gag at the 2019 NZ Comedy Guild Awards, brings his Westie charm to The Civic.

But wait, there’s so much more! The multiple comedy award-winning Ben Hurley comes in hot from his nationwide tour, alongside razor-sharp wonderful wahine, and regular on The ProjectJustine Smith. 2019’s NZICF Directors Choice winner Eli Matthewson is back, and local powerhouse-pop-duo Two Hearts (Laura Daniel x Joseph Moore) bring their musical satire and spectacular dance moves to the stage. And last but definitely not least, The Fan Brigade will treat audiences to their publicly and critically acclaimed musical comedy.

And there it all is, 17 of Aotearoa’s best comedians, all in one stunning night at The Opera House – it’s set to be NZ’s comedy’s biggest night of the year! We’ve still got some great seats availible so get the gang together and kick off the silly season in style – we reckon you deserve it!

Proceeds from the show will be invested by the NZ Comedy Trust into further development of the comedy industry.
