These may still be ‘unprecedented times’, but a bit of laughter is the best medicine!* Prepare yourself for a homegrown spread of gourmet giggles at the Best Foods Christmas Comedy Gala, hosted by the hilarious Pax Assadi, on Monday 9 November at The Opera House.

We are absolutely honoured to welcome national treasures and comedy legends, Dames Jools and Lynda Topp, The Topp Twins, to the Best Foods Christmas Comedy Gala. After more than 30 years of performing their unique blend of comedy, original music and audience participation, the Topp Twins' well-loved characters have become part of our national culture. The Dames are also award-winning singer-songwriters, activists and just bloody funny humans. Don’t miss this rare chance to see these Untouchable Girls this November.

A regular on Have You Been Paying Attention, 7 Days and The Project, and co-host of TVNZ’s Last Dad Standing, Melanie Bracewell brings her special brand of hilarity to the line-up. Winner of last year’s prestigious Fred award for Best Show, and host of critically acclaimed RNZ podcast Eating Fried Chicken In The Shower, James Nokise delivers his celebrated comedic storytelling to the stage.  Host of Have You Been Paying Attention and The Great Kiwi Bake Off, Hayley Sproull transitions from 2019 backstage Comedy Gala host to on-stage performer for a hilarious musical performance. 2019 Fred Award nominee, TV star and one third of the hilarious Frickin’ Dangerous Bro trio, James Roque delivers his whip-smart and hilarious brand of comedy. Making their Comedy Gala debuts, SNORT improv queen, two-time Billy T Nominee and self-professed Cat Lady in Waiting Donna Brookbanks hits the stage, and Paul Douglas, winner of Best Live show and Best Gag at the 2019 NZ Comedy Guild Awards, brings his Westie charm to The Opera House.

But wait, there’s so much more! The multiple comedy award-winning Ben Hurley comes in hot from his nationwide tour, alongside razor-sharp wonderful wahine, and regular on The Project, Justine Smith. 2019’s NZICF Directors Choice winner Eli Matthewson is back, andlocal powerhouse-pop-duo Two Hearts (Laura Daniel x Joseph Moore) bring their musical satire and spectacular dance moves to the stage. And last but definitely not least, The Fan Brigade will treat audiences to their publicly and critically acclaimed musical comedy.

But that’s not all, many more acts to be announced! Get the gang together before the silly season kicks into high gear, and have a few good laughs with us - we reckon you deserve it!

Proceeds from the show will be invested by the NZ Comedy Trust into further development of the comedy industry.
