For over a decade, the Festival has run Class Comedians, helping launch the careers of some of NZ’s top comedians including Rose Matafeo, James Roque and Rhys Mathewson

Past Class Comedians have gone on to write for and star on TV, win the Raw Comedy Quest, perform on international stages, win top comedy awards and so much more!

If you’re in Years 11 – 13 and reckon you could be the next big thing in comedy, Class Comedians is for you! Apply for the free 10-day intensive programme over the April school holidays by leaving your details here and get your first taster at the Comedy 101 workshops this March!

The Comedy 101 Workshops

Come along to the free Comedy 101 Workshops this March. At these 90 minute interactive workshops for high school students, you’ll see some sweet live performances from top comics, experience different types of comedy and learn first-hand the basics of stand-up.

  • Mon 9 March 6.30pm - Mangere Arts Centre, Auckland
    starring James Roque, Pax Assadi, Brendon Green & Alice Cassidy
  • Sat 14 March 1.55pm - TAPAC, Western Springs, Auckland
    starring James Roque, James Nokise, Brendon Green & Rachel Roberts

Apply for one of the limited spots on the free Class Comedians Intensive Programme taking place through April and May! Check out the full dates below.

This 10-day long programme for students in Years 11 - 13 will teach you all the basics of comedy and get you ready to perform live in the 2020 NZ Intl. Comedy Festival alongside a world class array of comedians.

You'll learn the ins and outs of the comedy industry, how to find your unique comedy voice, develop confidence, meet guest comedians & industry experts, and build your very own stand-up set ready for the Class Comedians Showcase during the Festival. Plus, you'll receive a special standby pass to see a whole bunch of Comedy Festival shows for free.

Spots in this programme are super limited and selection is based on the submitted online application form.

2020 Class Comedians Intensive Programme Auckland Dates:

  • Sat 4 & Sun 5 April (10am - 4pm)
  • Wed 15 - Fri 17 April (10am - 4pm) School Holidays
  • Mon 20 - Wed 22 April (10am - 4pm) School Holidays
  • Sat 8 & Sun 9 May (10am - 4pm)
  • Sat 16 May - Festival Showcase!

Apply for the programme online from mid-March by registering your interest here! Attending the Comedy 101 Workshops is not necessary to apply for the full programme.

You'll need parental consent to take part in Class Comedians.
