NZCT Development Programme

Show Development with Brendon Green

The Show Development Programme is a one-on-one mentoring initiative designed for comedians performing in their first or second NZ International Comedy Festival with Best Foods Mayo.

The initiative offers three personalised one-hour sessions with Brendon Green, a veteran Festival performer (10x NZ Comedy Fest performer, 2012 Best Newcomer, 2014 Billy T Nominee, and 2024 Fred Nominee) and are focused on helping you refine your show idea, build creative confidence, and prepare for your Festival season.

Sessions are flexible (in person or via Zoom) and tailored around your individual goals, whether that’s finding your show’s core theme, structuring material, building momentum, or managing creative blocks.

You’ll get advice on how to shape a full-length show, guidance on process and planning, and space to talk through ideas in a supportive and collaborative environment. It’s all about helping you bring your best, most authentic work to the Festival stage.

This is not directing or joke-writing - it’s development. Brendon’s role is to ask smart questions, provide creative prompts, and support you to find your own answers and build confidence in your unique comedic voice.

Sessions will take place between February and the end of April, with a third and final session after the Festival to debrief, reflect on outcomes, and review whether individual creative goals were achieved.

This initiative is fully funded by the New Zealand Comedy Trust (valued at $100 per session).
Spaces are limited, and we encourage participants to commit fully and make the most of the opportunity.

Final participants will be selected based on experience, creative drive, and readiness to develop their work in a constructive and growth-focused way.
