EXTRA SHOW ADDED! Having sold out their Herald Theatre season, the legendary Naked Samoans bring their dark comedy of denial, miracles and community service to Q Theatre’s Rangatira for one (more) night only, Wednesday, May 28. Honestly, this really is the last-ever show. Book tickets for the Q Theatre show HERE.
(Every ticket bought for the Q show before 11:59pm Friday, May 23 goes in the draw for a delicious, two-course dinner for two at Metita*.)
27 years after the Naked Samoans' debut comedy fest appearance, best mates Oscar Kightley, David Fane, Mario Gaoa, Shimpal Lelisi, Robbie Magasiva and Iaheto Ah Hi find the temptation of their first love, theatre, too powerful to resist. The Last Temptation of the Naked Samoans is a fresh new show from the legendary troupe who launched a new era of popular culture in Aotearoa with iconic taonga like the sitcom bro'Town and the Sione's Wedding movies.
Over the past three decades, the Naked Samoans have voiced Disney characters, broken cinema box-office records, become international stars, documented contemporary Pacific life on stage and screen, become elected representatives and received impressive acronyms like ONZM.
But despite the stakes being higher, the pull of the Naked Samoans remains stronger than anything—their mortgages, their kids, their pride—and a miracle of scheduling sees the six friends reunite for the first time since 2018. Could it also be their last supper? Maybe. Will their friendship survive their return to live comedy? Probably.
“I can’t wait to see them!” — Joe Daymond
“If it wasn’t for the Naked Samoans, I wouldn’t have clothes.” — Beulah Koale (TINĀ, Hawaii Five-O)
